Let's start coaches chat corner with a heavy subject!  Can weight training be used as an aid to getting fitter 'smarter' rather than just runing more miles? Which muscle groups would benefit from some work with weights?
Does anyone include weights in their training?
Pass me the dumb-bells......

I would be very interested in the views and the experience/practice of club members on this subject. My view is that a limited amount of basic weight training  for upper body conditioning can do no harm generally and would be of particular benefit to those of us who have sedentary occupations and tiny gardens. For those who have employment of a physical nature involving lifting /moving or have large gardens then they already consciously or subconsciously are doing a fair amount  and probably a sufficient amount of weight training.
