Hi
Following the success of the Harriers trips to Rhiems last year, a few of us thought it might be a good idea to try and run a few more overseas events in view of our proximity to the France, Belgium and Holland. Therefore i am pitching the Somme Marathon on Sunday 13 September as a possibility. Don't worry, you won't have to run a marathon! There are options of 5k (hardly worth it), 10k and half marathon. See website here - http://www.somme-marathon.com/en/. Encouragingly, it looks like the deadline for entries is pretty close to the race. Any interest/other suggestions? Cheers Bob Pullen |

Hello,
I have been experiencing a slight ache in my right knee for some time. Over the last few days the ache is getting worse. I can feel it every time I run or walk, and its happening on the right side of my right knee. Its an absolute bummer, as its effecting my training. Has anyone else had something similar? or can anyone recommend anything?? Appreciate your help, advice etc.. Ryan ![]() |

Hi everyone,
With training now kicking off for the Spring Marathon season I am planning to include ‘marathon runner profiles’ in the Spring Harrier. So, if you are doing a Spring marathon don’t be shy to let me have your details for inclusion in the Harrier….. Your profile could be a mixture of serious/humorous/informative/quirky - the main thing is to let your fellow club members hear about your ambitions and motivations for running a marathon. So tell us about you marathon training this year, the marathon you are doing, previous marathons, pb, the time you are aiming for this time, if you are supporting a charity, and how your training is going, along with anything else that you can think of…. A photo would also be nice. Can you all let me have your profile by the end of February for inclusion in a March Newsletter. Keep up the training and good luck… Many thanks peter.yarlett@tiscali.co.uk Peter |

Head Coach Gerry Reilly has provided a 15 week training programme for the London Marathon. It is available in both PDF and MS Word formats on the training page.

Hi
By now all of you who gave us permission to give your details to England Athletics should have received an England Athletics Competition Licence which should allow you to enter races without paying the "non-affiliated fee". This card will also get you a 10% (or is it 5%) one off discount at Sweatshop. Check the details when you register your licence on the England Athletics website. Now here is the important bit which came to light at the Cross Country on 28th December. Hopefully it should not affect us but is affecting other clubs. We initially registered as a club and paid £50 for the privilige. Then we subsequently registered you all and paid the INDIVIDUAL registration fees en-bloc from club funds as agreed at the AGM. You should therefore get your licence and not be charged any further fee. Some Clubs, however, have registered the club only and have asked their individual members to log on to England Athletics, register their personal details and pay the individual member fee direct to England Athletics. This approach is easier to administer for a small club. However it has resulted in some cases of non-payment of fees (probably due to the confusing instructions - basically runners run, they do not read websites very carefully!) and the club secretary getting threatening letters from England Athletics informing them that their EA membership will cease unless funds are paid etc. The purpose of this notice is as follows:- 1 If you have received requests for membership money from England Athletics do not pay it, you are already a paid up member. 2 If you have not yet received you competition licence please let me know preferably before 19th January so that I can follow this up as a group issue. 3 If you are a new member to Canterbury Harriers (Joined since 30th November 2008) and would like your details forwarded to England Athletics please let Sue Reilly and myself know so that we can organise this and pay your individual fee from club funds - this is a benefit of membership to which you are entitled. 4 Not having a competition licence after April 2009 may mean you have to pay the non-affiliated fee for races such as London Marathon, Great North Run etc. Any questions contact me Happy New Year Tim NB Gerry or Sean As not all members are using the forum yet can one of you email this to all members Thanks Tim . |
