50 Mile Challenge
The Gate Inn, Marshside on 8th September 2002
Three Harriers teams took part in this event with 16 teams in total in the competition. Each runner had to complete two laps of the 6.25 mile course. Here Steve Clark gives his summary of the event, with a photograph courtesy of Roy Gooderson.
Many thanks to all team members for turning out on a wet and miserable Sunday morning! Special thanks to Roy Gooderson and Mark Walsh for standing in at short (and I mean short!) notice. Conditions underfoot were grim on certain parts of the two lap 6.25 mile(?) course. (Actually, the grim conditions may have been the result of Gerry declaring on the pub run on the course on the Friday, "This'll be fine unless we get a lot of rain between now and Sunday.") Most of it was on the part you had to go over 4 times(!) on the figure of eight course. We all received a medal each and one mini shield per team. The two category winners also received a silver plate. These should be lodged in the Club's trophy cabinet! Fayne (radar) Brenner's time includes a little detour she decided to take!! (Deja vu - remember the North Downs Relay 2000?!) One other Harrier was running, non other then the notorious Pete Greenwood who ran for the Gate Inn Old Biddies team! I'm afraid I don't know his time. Steve Clark |
