Race summary Without doubt this was the toughest marathon Karen entered. She said: It was a fantastic challenge, though, circling the mountains around the town of La Clusaz. The original plan was run the whole thing with Sally Silver, but by the first checkpoint it was obvious that there was no way we were going to make the cut-off times for the second half of the race. After leaving her at 6km, I ended up running most of the next hour by myself, until I caught up with a French group. The zig zag climb up to the high point, at 1950m, left my legs shaking almost as much as the zig zag descent back down. The whole route was stunning, with views of Mont Blanc in the second half and the aid stations were unlike anything I've seen before. Being French they were loaded with local cheese, salami and bread, with jugs of tea to wash it down. It may have been my worst marathon time, by a long way, but it is right up there with the most enjoyable. It was certainly humbling lining up next to some exceptionally talented runners. Well done Karen
