Race summary On a day where we were all astonished by the record-breaking feats of Paula Radcliffe and Khalid Khannouchi, Canterbury Harriers had their own bit of history making as Roy Palmer broke his own club record by a full four minutes. Roy became the first Harrier to break 1:20 for both halves of a marathon and the first to average under six minutes a mile for the distance. A series of excellent debuts by women Harriers (and we had seven female runners in total) was headed by Angela Morrison in a time of 3:17. However, Angela did register as running for Fife AC and so it would appear that female champion Carol Reid is in the lead for honours in the club's marathon table again. Carol thought that she had run a mediocre time but I will let you judge that for yourselves! Anna Reutersward had a superb debut, especially given that she only ran her first 10K last July, and was encouraged through the closing stages by Dancin' Joe Epsom. Joe lost his "master of consistency" title this year by running some 16 minutes quicker than in 2001 - and was out training with the Harriers just two days after the race! Ian Smith, Wendy De Boick, Kate Jenkinson, Stephanie Lam and Wendy Smith were our other courageous debutants, all of whom putting in some really great efforts. Wendy de Boick even achieved the marathon runner's Holy Grail in achieving a negative split, running the second half quicker than the first. At the other end of the experience scale, Pete Greenwood completed his 22nd London Marathon and retain his membership of the Ever Presents club. Mick Holmans also showed courage in going round despite a long road back from injury.
