The 2002 Red Lion 10K will be on Sunday 11th August at 11am. Hope to see you at Hernhill then!

The Event
This is a challenging 10K road race over a very scenic course that starts and finishes at the Red Lion Pub at Hernhill near Faversham, Kent.

The course is a circular, single-lap one that goes via Fostall, Dargate, Boughton and Staplestreet.
Here is a map of the course (166K) which includes the marshalling points (marked with "M") and approximate Km points.

There will be prizes in all categories and there will also be team prizes. Every finisher will receive a memento and there will be spot prizes. (All runners, including late entries, will be eligible for spot prizes.)

In last November's Runner's World, the 2000 Red Lion 10K was described as "a remarkable race" and readers were urged to, "Book it in your race diary for next year".

How To Get There (see map of Hernhill):

By Bus:
Tim's Travel operate buses on Sundays between Maidstone and Canterbury that pass through Boughton, which is a village about 3km south of the Race HQ. Tim's Travel can be contacted on 01795 663884.
By Car (please note well the instructions for parking below):
From Canterbury/Dover:
Travelling on the A2 from Canterbury/Dover, take the turnoff for Boughton and Dunkirk. This takes you over the dual carriageway and you should turn left into "The Street" at Dunkirk. Continue onwards until you see a pub called "Woodman's Hall" on your left. Take the turning on the right, opposite the pub, and follow this road into Staplestreet. At the "Three Horseshoes" pub turn right into Church Hill Road. This road will take you into Hernhill. You will see signs for the car park as you approach Hernhill.
From London/Medway towns:
Travelling on the A2/M2, take the Canterbury exit at the roundabout at the end of the M2 (Brenley Corner). The turnoff into Boughton is then immediately on the left. Just into Boughton, turn left into Bull Lane and turn right at the end of that road into Staplestreet. Then turn first left just before the Three Horseshoes into Church Hill road, which will take you into Hernhill. You will see signs for the car park as you approach Hernhill.
From Whitstable & Thanet:
It is simplest to take the A299 (Thanet Way) to the Brenley Corner roundabout and then follow the instructions for London above.
From Ashford:
Take the A251 from Ashford to junction 6 of the M2 and then head in the direction of Canterbury and follow the instructions for London.
  Parking:
This will, thanks to Mr Sands Dawes, be at Mount Ephraim about 500m south of the Race HQ. This will be clearly marked and, from 9:30am, marshalled. Please avoid parking at the Red Lion pub and, especially, parking on the road.
By Train:
It is probably best to take the train to Faversham station and then a taxi to the Race HQ. Please note, however, that the station is about 6km west of the Race HQ. Call 08457 48 49 50 for train information or see the Railtrack website.

Race HQ and Changing
The Race HQ will be at the Red Lion pub at the centre of Hernhill village. Late entries and numbers can be collected from a stall on the Village Green. Results envelopes can also be left there. The race's SEAA permit (no. 1541) will be displayed at HQ.

Changing and toilets will be at the Hernhill Playing Fields changing rooms which are beside the Village Hall. These are 400m north of the Race HQ (and 900m north of the parking entrance) and will be available from 9:30am. They will be locked between 11am and 11:30am, although any items are left at the risk of the owner. Please vacate the changing rooms by 1:30pm.

Prize List
The top three men and top three women, plus the vet 40 & vet 50 male winners and vet 35 & vet 45 female winners, will all receive cash prizes and certificates. The male and female overall winners will also receive trophies. There will also be team prizes for affiliated clubs for both men and women. In each case, teams will comprise the first three runners from each club who entered by the closing date.
Late entries will not be eligible for any of the above prizes.
