The Harriers were represented by three runners, Phil Wyard, Joe Hicks and Bob Davison on Saturday 4th July at Le Touquet for the 10k with Colin Kent in the half marathon.
Normally Roy Gooderson would also have gone to complete the line-up of the original three Harriers (Joe, Bob and Roy) but was unable to make it this year, breaking a 32-year consecutive streak of attendances at the race.
There was a fairly large turnout that made progress tricky especially in the first two or three kilometres, but it gave it nonetheless the feel of a big event, which the French always manage to excel at.
The conditions were surprisingly pleasant with it being overcast and only 20ish degrees, whilst Canterbury was suffering temperatures of around 28 degrees.
This made for some excellent times from the two V70 runners, Joe at 54:00 and Bob at 55:13, gaining 4th and 5th V70 places overall. Phil had a satisfactory time of 1:00:19 and Colin did well in the ‘semi’ clocking 1:58:01.
As ever, the bonus of being in Le Touquet is the lively pedestrianised town centre full of cafes and bars with people having a good time. Needless to say, the group took full advantage.
