The Big Half on 6th September was a great way to combine a race with a weekend in London with family, and it ended up being a really memorable weekend.
I was really pleased to run a PB of 1:23:56, which also happened to be Canterbury Harriers V35 club record – a record that had stood since 1996! I definitely wasn’t expecting that, so it was a lovely surprise.
The race was really well organised and the course is nice and flat, so it’s a good one if you fancy having a go at a fast half. We stayed at the Travelodge in Stratford, which made getting around really easy, and I was lucky to be in Wave 1 before the day got too warm.
The best part for me was seeing my mum, husband, my boys and cousins cheering at Tower Bridge around mile 7. The atmosphere there was amazing, with so many people cheering, and seeing everyone gave me a huge boost.
The finish in Greenwich was also great. We had a wander around Greenwich Market afterwards, grabbed some food and had a few drinks in the pub to celebrate.
It was lovely having the whole family around for the weekend. Mum and I went to see Moulin Rouge on Saturday and had a nice wander around London, and my cousins came down too so we could all meet up.
The PB and club record were a fantastic bonus, but having my family there and enjoying the whole weekend together was what made it really special.
