On Sunday 7th June, three Canterbury Harriers, Andy Thorns, Peter Ash and myself did the 10 Bay Challenge which was just under 15 miles, there was also a 10km option too. It starts on the beach in Margate and the 15 mile course goes to Ramsgate and then back to Margate, for the 10km you turn around earlier.

I decided to enter this race as there was no time pressure and it sounded a bit different from a classic road race. From the offset, we were pretty much running along the beach, which was tough, but fun with a few inclines to get up to the road.

The most challenging section was when we had to run across rocks, I did have to walk quite a bit of that and this was where my husband annoyingly overtook me!

At some points in the race, Andy, Pete and I were all running together, which was really nice. Andy and Pete did however go on to beat me.

I really loved this event, I’ve never done anything like it before. It isn’t the type of race where you can zone out and daydream, you need to concentrate, especially as there weren’t loads of marshals so you needed to look out for the arrows. I quite like listening to music when running, but this is not the race to do this.

I would 100% recommend this race to anyone that likes a bit of a challenge and lovely views. I might well be back next year to try and get my revenge on Pete.
